Books Are the Greatest Scam in History

And You’re Still Not Falling for It?

Let’s take a minute to really zoom out.

We’re living in the most extraordinary moment in human history.

Never before has information been this accessible.

Never before has wisdom been this cheap.

And sadly, never before have people taken it so for granted.

We are surrounded… no, flooded… with magic, and we don’t even blink.

Let me explain.

Imagine Being Born 500 Years Ago…

If you wanted to learn something — let’s say medicine or astronomy or leadership — you’d either have to be:

  • Born into the right family,

  • Have access to the right temple or monastery,

  • Or spend years traveling just to meet a wise teacher who might share their knowledge with you… if they liked you.

Books were written by hand. One by one. On fragile scrolls.

Knowledge was rare.

And knowledge was power — which meant it was guarded.

If you were a woman? You weren’t even allowed to learn.

If you were poor? You weren’t even allowed to try.

If you were curious? Too bad — curiosity didn’t come with access.

Now Look at Us...

You think of a topic, and in five seconds, you can:

  • Watch a TED Talk on it,

  • Read a book by the world’s top expert,

  • Join a free course,

  • Read personal stories, blogs, and scientific research on it.

You don’t even need to leave your house.

In fact, you could be in your blanket, sipping tea, and download a 500-page masterpiece that someone spent their entire life writing — and you’d have it in 30 seconds.

That’s not normal.

That’s not boring.

That’s insane.

So Here’s Why Books Are the Greatest Scam Ever

Books are the only place where you can:

  • Steal (legally) decades of someone’s life lessons,

  • Learn what took them years of trial and error,

  • And pay less than the cost of a fancy coffee for it.

It’s like walking into an all-you-can-eat buffet of every dish you’ve ever loved — and many you didn’t know existed and someone serves it on gold-plated dishes, lit candles, and says;

“Please, eat. Take whatever you like. It’s all for you. You can eat as much as you like, when you like, at your own pace.”

And you go…

“Meh. I’m not hungry.”

That’s what not reading is.

Reading Is the Original Superpower

Reading makes you:

  • Wiser, faster

  • More empathetic

  • Better at making decisions

  • A clearer communicator

  • A calmer, more grounded person

  • And someone who never feels truly alone

You gain access to thoughts, feelings, and perspectives from people across centuries and continents.

Who else gets to say that?

And Yet, We Waste It

We waste it on doomscrolling.

We binge-watch.

Yet we say we “don’t have time” to read for 20 minutes.

We hoard books we never open.

We buy Kindles and keep them dusty.

We bookmark articles that we forget by the next day.

We collect knowledge like decoration instead of consumption.

And somehow, the biggest treasure trove in history — we treat like background noise.

That’s not just a tragedy. That’s theft. You’re stealing from your own potential.

If You’re Already a Reader

First of all, you rock!

And also, read not just to finish — read to be blown away.

Seriously. Read with the awareness that:

  • You are accessing a treasure your ancestors could only dream of

  • You are learning in minutes what once took decades

  • You are drinking from a fountain of human genius — across time, cultures, struggles, and awakenings

Let your mind be blown.

Let your heart feel the gratitude.

You are so lucky to be a reader in this age.

If You’re Not a Reader Yet

Please, just start.

Don’t worry about the perfect book.

Just find a book.

Let it make you curious, or make you laugh, or make you feel something.

Start with five pages.

Before bed. On your commute. With your morning tea.

Reading is not an obligation — it’s an invitation.

To meet yourself.

To understand others.

To upgrade your entire inner world — quietly, deeply, beautifully.

Food for Thought

We are among the first generation to have access to the entire world’s wisdom in our pocket — and maybe the last to still remember what it felt like not to have it.

So don’t waste it.

Don’t wait for the “right time.”

Don’t let this buffet grow cold.

The greatest scam is that we get to access centuries of brilliance...

…and still don’t take it.

But you can.

So pick up a book.

And let your future self thank you.
